Step by step

The tool finds your record from your birthdate and names, then asks you to prove the record is yours.1

  1. Open the Suppression Center, enter your email address and agree to the terms.You get a verification email with a link to continue.1
  2. Enter your date of birth.PeopleConnect says it can't be changed once saved, so check it before you confirm.1
  3. Add your current legal name and any earlier or informal names you use.1
  4. Select the record that describes you.1
  5. Pick a phone number or email address in that record that you control, and enter the code sent to it.This proves you are the person in the record. If none work, PeopleConnect asks you to email its customer care team.1
  6. Set the report to Suppressed and save.PeopleConnect says that stops the report appearing on its people search sites.1
No matching record?PeopleConnect says your record may be missing from its data, or may already have been hidden by someone using a different email address. It suggests adding every name you use and verifying more phone numbers or emails.1

The tool covers searches by name. PeopleConnect says your name and other details may still appear in phone, address or email reports when someone searches by those.1

Other sites and sources

It doesn't apply to Classmates.com or to account data you gave these sites as a customer, and doesn't affect the original sources of the information.1

California's registry lists three PeopleConnect companies, each with more sites than the four the tool names. We found no statement that the tool covers the others.2

Questions people ask

Why is my TruthFinder opt-out not working?

The tool only hides a record you have verified, by a code sent to a phone or email in that record, and only from name searches. Phone, address and email reports can still show you.1

Do I need to opt out of each site separately?

Not for the four sites the tool names: PeopleConnect says one suppression covers name searches on TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, Intelius and US Search.1

I'm a judge or police officer. Is there another route?

PeopleConnect has an email route for judges, law enforcement officers, public officials and other protected people in states with a law that lets them demand removal. It asks for your details, the law you rely on and your protected status.1

Does California's DROP reach these sites?

All three companies are in California's registry, so a DROP request reaches them.2 CalPrivacy says DROP doesn't delete publicly available data, so the Suppression Center is still the direct route for these reports.3
