How to opt out of Spokeo

Paste the link to your Spokeo listing and an email address into Spokeo's free form, then click the link in the email it sends. Each listing needs its own request.1

Step by step

Find your listings first. Spokeo says you may have several, each with its own link.1

  1. Search your name on spokeo.com and open each listing that is you.Try past cities and other spellings of your name too.
  2. Copy the listing's link from your browser's address bar.Spokeo's own example of the format is spokeo.com/Smith-Sample/Houston/TX/p12345678. A link from a purchase page also works.1
  3. Open spokeo.com/optout, paste the link, enter your email address and click Opt out.1
  4. Open the confirmation email and click its link.Spokeo says the request is only complete once you do.1
  5. Repeat for every other listing.Spokeo says each one "must be opted out individually."1
ThatsThem is separateSpokeo's California registration says an opt-out on spokeo.com covers all of Spokeo's public sites except ThatsThem, which has its own form at thatsthem.com/optout.2 That form asks for your full name, street address, city, state, ZIP code, email and phone, and says requests are typically processed within 72 hours.3

Why is my Spokeo opt-out not working?

Usually one of three things: the confirmation link wasn't clicked, another listing about you is still up, or a new listing appeared from new records. Spokeo says each listing needs its own request and that information may reappear, and it asks you to check regularly.1

Is the Spokeo opt-out free?

Yes. The form asks only for the listing link and an email address.1

Can I opt out of Spokeo without the website?

Spokeo's registration says its customer care team will help with an opt-out for all of its public sites, using the contact methods on its contact page.2

Does California's DROP cover Spokeo?

Spokeo, Inc. is in California's data broker registry, so a DROP request reaches it.2 CalPrivacy says DROP doesn't delete publicly available data, and Spokeo says its listings are built from publicly available information, so the form above is still the direct route.1, 4
